Add timestamped entries to your Obsidian daily note automatically
Templater scripts, QuickAdd macros and periodic notes can all append to a daily note, but each one needs Obsidian open and someone to trigger it. Hourly does it from outside: a small Windows tray app that writes the line into the markdown file on disk.
What it writes
Once every hour of real activity Hourly asks what you just did. Your answer is added to today's note as a line with the time, just above a marker line you choose (by default <next log here>), so the log lands exactly where you want it in your template:
## Log 09:10 - Reviewed the pull request and left comments 10:15 - Planned the week in the project board <next log here>
Works with your folder layout
- Pick your vault folder once in Settings.
- Choose how your daily notes are organised from a short list of common layouts, for example
2026/October/2026-10-01.mdor a flat folder of dated notes. - Or point Hourly at one of your existing daily notes: it reads the date from the file name and works out the pattern by itself.
- The preview shows the path for today, tomorrow and a month ahead, so mistakes are easy to spot.
Safe for your vault
- No plugin, no Obsidian API: it only edits the note for the day, and only adds a line.
- Obsidian can be open or closed; sync tools see an ordinary file change.
- The note is replaced in a single step by Windows, so a crash does not leave a half written note.
- Every entry is also kept in a separate file on your computer, so nothing is lost if a note is moved.
Hourly is free, has no account, and runs on Windows 10 and 11.
