Already in Obsidian? Your journal does not need a separate app.
Journaling apps such as Day One are well made, but they are one more place to check, separate from the daily notes you may already keep in Obsidian. Hourly is not a journal app. It is a prompt that writes into the journal you already have.
What you get
- One prompt an hour, one sentence, about ten seconds, instead of a blank page at the end of the day.
- No new app to check tomorrow: the line is added to your existing daily note as plain markdown.
- No account, no cloud and no sync. Your entries stay on your computer.
- An export to Markdown, text or JSON if you want to review a week or ask an AI about it.
What you do not get
Mood tracking, photo journaling and guided prompts. Hourly is deliberately narrow: it solves "I keep forgetting to write anything down", not "I want a full journaling app".
Works next to your other tools
Hourly only adds a line to the note for the day, so it sits comfortably beside whatever else you keep in your vault. It is a small Windows tray app and works while Obsidian is closed.
